vRealize Automation 7 – Create Tenants
January 14, 2016Now it’s time to create a new tenant in our vRealize Automation portal. Let’s login to the portal as the system administrator account as we have before. Click the Tenants tab and then click the “New” button.
Give the new tenant a name and a description. Then enter a URL name. This name will be appended to this string: https://[vraappliance.domain.name]/vcac/org/ and will be the URL that users will login to. In my example the url is https://vra7.hollow.local/vcac/org/labtenant. Click “Submit and Next”.
Enter a local user account. I used the vraadmin account much like I did in the previous post about setting up authentication. Click Next.
In the administrators tab, I added the vraadmin account as both a tenant administrator and an IaaS Administrator. I will admit, I’m omitting some information here. After I added the vraadmin account, I logged into the tenant as this account. I setup directory services for this account the same way I did for the default tenant. Once this was done, I added the “Domain Admins” group as a Tenant Administrator and IaaS Administrator. This end result is seen in the screenshot below.
Thats it for setting up a new tenant. I did want to mention that in vRA7, when you login to a tenant with a directory configured, you’ll have the option to login to either the directory you setup or the default tenant domain. Be sure to select the right domain before trying to login.
Summary
There isn’t a ton of work to be done to setup a new tenant, but I’ve found that the most important lesson is to create a blank default tenant and then setup your new tenant under that where all your goodies will be. We’ll be discussing some of these goodies in the next few posts.
hello Eric,
I am also facing the same issue not getting the infra TAB, I think this is related to build in vRO setting, do we need to enable the orchestrator manually
http://orchestration.io/2015/01/09/configuring-the-built-in-vrealize-orchestrator-in-vrealize-automation-6-2/
Please refer to the above link
and help me with the configuration since the user from which i am trying to login is both Tanent admin and IAAS Admin as shown in your post “https://theithollow.com/2016/01/14/vrealize-automation-7-create-tenants/”
Thanks and Regards
Akshay
Hi,
In vRA 6.2.3 we configured all goodies in default tenant itself and did not created any initial or other tenants.
then i came to know that vsphere.local tenant has limitation that user needs to be searched in vRA or used anywhere with format userid @domain.local format.
So was it not a good idea to use default tenant in 6.2.3 ?
Also now I am migrating from 6.2.3 to 7.1.0. I assume if I created goodies in default domain same will be migrated to vRA 7.1.0. So again using vsphere.local default domain will be good idea or should i create initial tenant ?
Also user search format issue of default domain, is it resolved in 7.1.0 ?
You always want to create a new tenant and create your “goodies” in there. Leave the default tenant as bare bones as possible so you have flexibility later if you need to add other tenants.
Thanks … but now what if we created default tenant in 6.2.3 and now migrating to 7.1.0.
All will be migrated in default tenant right ?
or any way to move goodies to initial tenant while migrating ?
